Tour information
Paddle in the shadow of Tauranga's icon, Mt Maunganui (Mauao) meaning "caught by light." Experience crystal clear waters abundant in wildlife. Paddle through the Tauranga entrance rich in history and culture and onto Mt Maunganui beach famous for the golden sand beaches and surf. Continue onto Leisure Island (Moturiki) which was once the site of an aquarium but has now been reverted back to its wild state.
With steep cliffs descending into deep clear blue sea it is a great spot for fishing with plenty of sea birds and other wildlife. If weather and tides are favourable there is an option for a short walk on the island. It's then a short paddle past Wedding Cake rock, a favourite spot for shell fish before heading over to Rabbit Island (Motuotau). Rabbit Island offers a thrilling experience paddling close to sheer cliff faces, caves and rocky outcrops. On our return home we drop of at Matakana Island. Accessible only by sea or air it is the home of the endangered New Zealand Dotrel and other wildlife. Matakana offers a place to rest, explore the coastline or have a swim.
